An introduction to the Drum ‘n’ Bass Rhythms: its basic grooves, feel and attitude. Gerwin Eisenhauer explains the historical background of this music style from the 90s and its origin in 1969, when Gregory Coleman, the drummer of the American soul group “The Winstons”, played the famous 4 bar “Amen Break” on the B-side track of their single “Color Him Father”.

Gerwin goes into the Charlie Watts Method, the different ways the Rolling Stones drummer played the Hi-Hat and the Snare and how this can be applied to electronic grooves.

In various exercises you learn the characteristics of the Amen Break and its breakbeat architecture. How to cut the 4 bars into different pieces, how to loop and combine small chunks of the Amen Break to create new grooves as well as the importance of playing steadily and with consistency.
